San Diego, November 14 – Seiko I Infotech Inc. announced today that it will introduce a new 64-inch, six-color solvent inkjet printer called the “ColorPainter 64S” in December of this year. The ColorPainter 64S offers true 720 dpi speeds of 176 square feet per hour (16 square meters per hour) directly on uncoated media such as vinyl and banner stock – which is approximately 2-5 times faster than competing models. The ColorPainter 64S utilizes a special new type of ink featuring an expanded gamut and less solvents, yet produces an unbelievable color gamut with true outdoor durability. Eiichi Ishihama, President of Seiko I Infotech Inc., states “Specifically, the rich reds and deep blacks produced by the ColorPainter 64S with our expanded gamut and lower solvents ink set are much better than competitive products. In our initial market testing, Dealers around the world were extremely excited about the color and durability of the ColorPainter 64S’s output. And the speed of the product is exponentially faster than anything in its price class”. The ColorPainter 64S will be shown for the first time to the public at the USSC Sign World show in Atlantic City, New Jersey, December 4 – 6, 2003.
Despite the rapid increase in the use of solvent-based inkjet printers to produce outdoor signs, vehicle graphics and banners, current solvent inkjet printers have not been able to deliver multiple-year outdoor durability, vivid colors, and high speed production in a single low-cost printer – until now.
The ColorPainter 64S accomplishes the amazing speed of 176 sfph at 720 dpi (with 4 passes) by using 6 new super-wide piezo print heads featuring 512 nozzles per head/color for a total of 3,072 nozzles. The new ink set was specifically designed and matched to the new industrial piezo print heads to provide durability and reliability in a high-speed printing environment. The new inks offer a wider range of colors and superior adhesion/durability for outdoor applications over other lower solvent inks. The six colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, black, light cyan, and light magenta) ensure superb color accuracy and high density, especially in red and black color areas. The new inks and the ColorPainter 64S printer were developed for signmakers and screenprinters for rugged outdoor applications such as signs, banners, vehicle graphics, etc. The color output offers superior adhesion, lightfastness, scratch resistance, and weatherability, and is well suited for outdoor applications up to 3 years.
The ColorPainter 64S can print on media up to 64″ wide (162 cm) and includes an automated, optical takeup system. It supports the use of common sign industry uncoated media such as adhesive vinyls, films, banner stocks, papers, fabrics, etc. Seiko I Infotech, Inc. has tested and confirmed compatibility with many Avery DennisonTM, 3MTM and MetaMarkTM vinyl products – a complete list of compatible media manufacturers and products will be published on the Seiko I Infotech website (www.seiko-i.com) prior to delivery in January.
Onyx GraphicsTM, ScanvecAmiableTM, and Wasatch Computer TechnologyTM have all pledged support for the new printer with their respective RIP software products. The ColorPainter 64S printer will be sold through Seiko I Infotech’s worldwide network of professional Distributors and Dealers.
The ColorPainter 64S is scheduled for release in late January of 2004.
