Release of Electronic Dictionary IC DICTIONARY SR-V530 Featuring Pronunciation and Voice Audio of Approx. 2,000 Chinese Conversational Phrases and 3,000 English Conversational Phrases

Seiko Instruments Inc. (Abbreviation: SII; President, COO & CFO: Yukihiko Chayama; Head Office: 1-8 Nakase, Mihama-ku, Chiba, Chiba Prefecture; Tel: 043-211-1111) will release the electronic dictionary “SR-V530” which includes DHC’s highly popular conversation dictionaries “Keitaiban Chuugokugo Kaiwa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Portable Dictionary of Chinese for Unexpected Situations”) by Li Ling Yan and “Eikawa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Dictionary of English for Unexpected Situations) by Ichiro Tatsumi and Sky Heather Tatsumi, featuring pronunciation and voice audio of each dictionary’s conversational phrases.

The model to be released includes the text data from book version dictionaries as well as the voice data of the keywords of the conversation dictionaries, enabling the user to not only read conversational text but confirm its pronunciation and play the audio for others to listen to directly. With its ability to let the user actually listen to and verify difficult-to-pronounce Chinese conversational phrases or frequently used English conversational phrases, the dictionary is ideal for learning and travel.

The dictionary also includes Sanseido’s “Deirii Nicchuuei Jiten” (“Daily Japanese-Chinese-English Dictionary”), a useful three-language dictionary that provides both Chinese and English equivalents for Japanese entries. Additionally, the dictionary is designed with an easy-to-carry compact body loaded with preferred functions unique to Seiko electronic dictionaries, such as a real-time search feature, vocabulary notebook feature and four-tone entry key feature, making the dictionary exceptionally convenient and easy to use.

The dictionary is a popular resource that helps students learn practical conversational expressions. Focused on friendly, casual basic expressions, the dictionary serves as a tool that promotes the efficient learning of useful English expressions. From the business person to the housewife, the dictionary enjoys wide popularity. The 3,000 keyword phrases are provided in audio form as well, letting the language learner listen to the words pronounced with native intonation and speed.

Approx. 13,000 Japanese-Chinese-English main word entries
This dictionary is ideal for a wide range of beginners, young and old alike. The dictionary includes both the Chinese and English equivalents for Japanese entries, allowing the user to build up his or her power of vocabulary through language comparisons. 1. Audio Feature
In “Chuugokugo Kaiwa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Dictionary of Chinese for Unexpected Situations”) and “Eikawa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Dictionary of English for Unexpected Situations”) modes, the language student can listen to approximately 2,000 and 3,000 conversational phrases, respectively, pronounced with native intonation and speed, by a simple press of a button. (Audio is available for those words on the screen marked with a speaker icon.)

2. Conversational phrase keyword search features
Both Chinese and English conversational phrases can be searched using the same “Search by Scenario” feature provided in book version dictionaries as well as “Japanese Language Lookup” and “English/Chinese Language Lookup” features capable of looking up phrases based on a Japanese or Chinese word, and “Japanese Keyword Lookup” and “English/Chinese Keyword Lookup” features that let the user narrow down the conversational phrases to be found.

3. Vocabulary notebook feature
The vocabulary notebook feature can record a maximum of 100 words per dictionary. The recording feature is available in “Chuugokugo Kaiwa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Dictionary of Chinese for Unexpected Situations”), “Eikawa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Dictionary of English for Unexpected Situations”) and “Deirii Nicchuuei Jiten” (Daily Japanese-Chinese-English Dictionary)” dictionary modes, and can record up to 100 audio conversational phrases for each conversation dictionary. By recording often-used conversational phrases in audio form, the user can create a talking vocabulary notebook that may prove helpful when in a pinch.

4. A “four tone entry key” that facilitates quick Chinese searches
This feature allows the user to easily enter four-tone specific pinyin notation using the four-tone key during pinyin entry. Of course, searches can be conducted without the four-tone specification as well, allowing the user to quickly search for the target word using a method that is most appropriate for the situation.

5. Change font size feature
This feature lets the user change the font size displayed on the screen by a simple press of a button. In “Chuugokugo Kaiwa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Dictionary of Chinese for Unexpected Situations”) and “Deirii Nicchuuei Jiten” (Daily Japanese-Chinese-English Dictionary)” dictionary modes, the font can be changed to 16-point or 24-point, and in “Eikawa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Dictionary of English for Unexpected Situations”) to 12-point or 16-point.

Other available features include real-time search, history (100 items), mode key ON, environment settings, currency conversion (yuan, dollar and yen), and calculator features. The jump feature is not included.
