Seiko Instruments Inc. (Abbreviation: SII; President, COO & CFO: Yukihiko Chayama; Head Office: 1-8 Nakase, Mihama-ku, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture; Tel: 043-211-1111) will release at the end of February “IC Dictionary SR-E900,” the electronic dictionary with a backlight which features 26 references aids for business, such as Nichigai Associates’ “180 Mango Taiyaku Daijiten Eiwa-Waei” (“The 1.8 Million Words Japanese-English English-Japanese Unabridged Dictionary”) and NHK’s “Yasashii Bijinesu Eigo Jitsuyou Fureezu Jiten” (Easy Business English – Practical Phrase Dictionary”).
The “SR-E9000” model to be released is the successor to the well-received electronic dictionary “SR-T6700” released last year, providing carefully selected references that offer even greater assistance in the business world. The dictionary includes references that help the businessperson read the variety of Japanese and English documents of the business field, as well as references that will improve the user’s power of expression when writing business documents in English. The electronic dictionary is also provided with a backlight to ensure easy viewability in dark places, such as on an airplane or in a hotel, allowing use without location selection, making the dictionary ideal for the businessperson.
“180 Mango Taiyaku Daijiten Eiwa-Waei” (“The 1.8 Million Words Japanese-English English-Japanese Unabridged Dictionary” contains technical words from a wide range of technical fields, such as scientific terminology, JIS terminology, aviation, electricity, finance, medicine and biology, making the dictionary suitable for manual development and technical document translation. The “Bijinesu Gijutsu Jitsuyou Eiwa-Waei Daijiten” (“Business and Technology English-Japanese and Japanese-English Unabridged Dictionary for Practical Use”) richly incorporates native expressions particular to business and technical documents that are not given in general English-Japanese and Japanese-English dictionaries.
In addition to these two unabridged dictionaries, the new model also includes “Yasashii Bijinesu Eigo Jitsuyou Fureezu Jiten” (“Easy Business English – Practical Phrase Dictionary”) which embodies the essence of 16 years of the popular radio show, “Kiiwaado de Hiku Eibun Bijinesu Retaa Jiten” (“English Business Letter Dictionary – Keyword Series”), the old standby for English letter writing, “Jouhou Shori Gijutsusha Yougo Jiten” (“Dictionary of Terms for the Information Processing Engineer”), a must-have for the IT specialist, and both “Keizai Shingo Jiten” (“Dictionary of New Economic Words”) and “Keiei, Kaikei, Kabushiki, Kinyuu, Hoken, Ryuutsuu, Houkoku Yougo Jiten” (“Dictionary of Business, Accounting, Stock, Finance, Insurance, Distribution and Advertisement Terminology”) which support economic terminology, thereby offering a tremendous selection of dictionaries indispensable to the engineer and businessperson.
Of course, the dictionary also includes basic dictionaries as well, such as the “Genius Unabridged English-Japanese Dictionary” and “Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, 6th Edition,” making the dictionary ideal for a variety of uses, from English learning to English academic document and newspaper reading.
With the new model, SII has dramatically improved the performance of provided search functions, enabling utilization of dictionary content to the maximum limit. Searches can now be performed using functions such as the “search multiple dictionaries & search all example sentences” function which lets the user search all key words and example sentences of included dictionaries simultaneously as well as specify the word order for example sentence searches. The dictionary is also filled with many search features that support the businessperson, such as an enhanced translation search feature that lets the user search for an English word or sentence using Japanese, a Japanese translation search feature, and a super jump example sentence search feature.
The dictionary also employs the “kaiteki” PC-touch specification that enables easy laptop-like keyboard input, a magnesium alloy case offering increased toughness, and a further improved “damper shell structure” (*1). The new electronic dictionary is also provided with a card slot with a card cover for “SILUCA cards” which permit later dictionary additions and audio support (built-in MP3 system, digital amp & ceramic speaker).
In addition, a model that includes the “Cobuild English Dictionary for Advanced Learners” (Collins) will also be available at the beginning of the summer.
