NIKE TIMING HOLIDAY 03 Collection
Nike Timing Releases 3 New Watch Models, Including the Oregon Series with Enhanced Outdoor Specifications

Seiko Instruments Inc. [Abbreviated: SII; President, COO & CFO: Yukihiko Chayama; Head Office: 8 Nakasa 1-chome, Mihama-ku, Chiba-shi, Chiba; Tel: +81-43-211-1111 (Representative)] will consecutively release three new watch models, including the Oregon Series, from Nike Timing starting at the end of August, as the NIKE TIMING HOLIDY 03 Collection.

Nike Timing will begin release of the Oregon Series, which was announced to the world at the Basel Fair in April 2003, as its new outdoor line. Robust and designed with superior visibility, these watches are geared toward those athletes and enthusiasts who enjoy the challenges of the natural topography, using the great outdoors as their playing field. The Oregon Series timepieces are full-scale sports watches, featuring an aluminum-based case that is aesthetically pleasing even when marred from excessive use, a durable and replaceable one-piece strap, and a strap keeper and buttons which reflect the designers’ attention to detail. The Oregon Series watches to be released include the digital quartz “Alti-Compass,” the series flagship which boasts a design utilizing three sensors (*1), a simple analog chronograph, and a three-handmodel with a calendar display.

Nike Timing will also simultaneously release “Lance 4,” the Lance Armstrong (*2) model designed after the cyclist Lance Armstrong who became the second person in history to win five straight Tour de France (*3) championships this past July. Lance Armstrong participated in the development of Lance 4, and his attention to detail clearly comes across in the detailed features of the watch. Designers employed titanium in the manufacture of the case to ensure durability, and used the yellow color of the Maillot Jaune (a racing jersey worn by the leader of the Tour de France) as the color of the level gauge, and red (or blue at Alti-Compass) as the color of the dual liquid crystal display. In addition, Lance Armstrong’s signature is engraved on the back of the watch.

(*1) Three sensors: Temperature, pressure and magnetic force.

(*2) Lance Armstrong: Born 1971. Winner of the Tour de France from 1999-2003. Underwent surgery and chemical treatment after being diagnosed with cancer in 1996, and resumed competition in 1998. Founded the Lance Armstrong Foundation, a nonprofit organization which exists to support cancer survivors, in 1997.

(*3) Tour de France: The most prestigious bicycle road race in the world, which features a finale on July 27 that takes the riders 152 kilometers from Ville-d’Avray to Paris Champs-Elysees. Won by Lance Armstrong (United States) for five consecutive years. On its 100th anniversary this year, Lance Armstrong tied the record for consecutive wins set by Miguel Indurain (Spain) whose streak began in 1991, and became the fifth cyclist in history to win five championships.

In addition to the Oregon Series, the NIKE TIMING HOLIDY 03 Collection will also include COVERT II/REVEAL II and TRIAX ARMORED II models, which will also be simultaneously released.

The COVERT and REVEAL Series consists of analog and digital chronograph watches designed in the image of a race car cockpit. The base color of the watches to be released is limited to black, with the dial color available in four colors: red, yellow, black or silver. TRIAX ARMORED II, on the other hand, reflects a design developed with a variety of business scenes in mind, featuring stainless-steel case and strap, a chronograph and a calendar.
