SII Releases the Electronic Dictionary "IC Dictionary SR-V540," Featuring a Red Body and Voice Audio of Italian Conversational Speech

Seiko Instruments Inc. (Abbreviation: SII; President, COO & CFO: Yukihiko Chayama; Head Office: 1-8 Nakase, Mihama-ku, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture; Tel: 043-211-1111) will release in mid July the electronic dictionary “SR-V540” which includes DHC’s highly popular conversation dictionaries “Keitaiban Itariago Kaiwa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Portable Dictionary of Italian for Unexpected Situations”) and “Eikawa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Dictionary of English for Unexpected Situations”), featuring voice audio of each dictionary’s main conversational phrase entries.
The new dictionary is the industry’s first electronic dictionary to offer voice audio of Italian conversational speech (*1).

The model to be released displays on a crystal liquid screen relevant Italian/English conversational phrases when a Japanese keyword is entered, providing voice audio for the main entries of each conversation dictionary.

The dictionary allows the user to confirm pronunciations while reading conversational text and play the audio for others to listen to directly, making the unit ideal as a travel companion. With its body color similar to that of red wine, the electronic dictionary has a sophisticated appeal.

The dictionary also includes Sanseido’s “Deirii Nichiiei Jiten” (“Daily Japanese-Italian-English Dictionary”), a useful three-language dictionary that provides both Italian and English equivalents for Japanese entries.

1. Audio feature
In “Keitaiban Itariago Kaiwa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Portable Dictionary of Italian for Unexpected Situations”) and “Eikaiwa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (“Dictionary of English for Unexpected Situations”) modes, the language student can listen to approximately 2,800 and 3,000 conversational phrases, respectively, pronounced with native intonation and speed, with a simple press of the button. 2. Conversational phrase keyword search features
The new dictionary allows the user to search for both Italian and English conversational phrases using Japanese keywords. Audio is available for those words on the screen marked with a speaker icon.

3. Change font size feature
This feature lets the user change the font size displayed on the screen from 12 to 16 point with a simple press of a button.

Other available features include real-time search, history (100 items), mode key ON, environment settings, vocabulary notebook, currency conversion (euro, dollar and yen) and calculator features. The jump feature is not included.
