Seiko Instruments to Hold "The Second National Electronic Dictionary Pop Song Translation Competition for Junior High and High School Students -2005"
- Calling for Pop Hit Translations from the Unique Perspective of the Junior High and High School Student -

Seiko Instruments Inc. (Abbreviation: SII; President, COO & CFO: Yukihiko Chayama; Head Office: 1-8 Nakase, Mihama-ku, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture; Tel: 043-211-1111) will hold “The Second National Electronic Dictionary Pop Song Translation Competition for Junior High and High School Students,” calling for all junior high and high school students to creatively translate pop hit songs and submit their translations between April 1 and September 12, 2005.

SII held “The First National Electronic Dictionary Pop Song Translation Competition for High School Students” last year and received over 18,000 entries, graciously welcoming participation from many high school students and high school teachers. This competition is designed to provide junior high and high school students with the opportunity to further enjoy the electronic dictionary that has so often been used by so many students of that age in a venue other than study. This year SII has expanded the scope of applicants to junior high school students, hoping to welcome an even greater number of participants.

The competition allows entrants to translate great hits, calling for translations incorporating the unique perspective of the present junior high and high school students of the 21st Century. Without the “right answer” prepared in advance, SII hopes to encourage creative thought, creation and expression based on freethinking, thereby providing entrants with the opportunity to realize new language and communication skills that will be required in the society of the future.

Details such as the application method will be timely uploaded on SII’s respective Web page (http://sii-dictionary.jp).
