Seiko Instruments Inc. (Abbreviation: SII; President, COO & CFO: Yukihiko Chayama; Head Office: 1-8 Nakase, Mihama-ku, Chiba, Chiba Prefecture; Tel: 043-211-1111) will release the electronic dictionary “SR-T5120,” the industry’s first dictionary to simultaneously include the “Unabridged Genius English-Japanese Dictionary” and “Cobuild English Dictionary for Advanced Learners” which are in great demand amongst general English learners as well as university and high school students.
The “Unabridged Genius English-Japanese Dictionary” has an established reputation for providing detailed grammar explanations as well as a wealth of example sentences. The “Cobuild English Dictionary for Advanced Learners” offers real and modern English language example sentences based on an innovative editorial policy geared toward English learning. The example sentences of these two dictionaries provided together for the first time in a single unit have been edited and collected based on corpus (language database) technology, and include over approximately 200,000 English example sentences combined, allowing the user to search through everyday example sentences that give a feeling of contemporary English.

In addition, the new dictionary presents a Japanese language system that is even more expansive than the English language system, including the “Hyakkajiten Maipedia Denshijishoban” (“My Encyclopedia, Electronic Dictionary Version,” “Koujien (Fifth Edition) & Gyakuhiki Koujien,” “Zenyaku Dokkai Kogo Jiten” (“Dictionary for Classical Japanese Complete Translation and Reading Comprehension”), “Tsukaikata no Wakaru Ruigo Reikai Jiten” (“A Dictionary of Synonyms in Japanese”), “Kanjigen JIS Kanji Version” and “Personal Katakana Word Dictionary.” The new “SR-T5120” is designed based on the idea that English learning requires a Japanese proficiency level that is greater than or equal to one’s English proficiency level, placing an emphasis on the combination of English and Japanese language dictionaries provided, making the electronic dictionary ideal for the language learner. In addition to a full keyboard and stylish body, the new model is provided with preferred features that are now even easier to use, including an example sentence search feature that lets the user search for example sentences specifically in the “Cobuild English Dictionary for Advanced Learners,” and a vocabulary notebook feature that can record up to 1,000 words without any restrictions regarding the number of recorded words per dictionary.

The dictionary to be released is the industry’s first electronic dictionary to combine Taishukan Shoten’s “Unabridged Genius English-Japanese Dictionary” and Collins’ “Cobuild English Dictionary for Advanced Learners” in a single unit.
The over 200,000 extensive example sentences provided by the two dictionaries can now be taken along with the language student in the form of a compact electronic dictionary and used to search for appropriate expressions when writing in English, at any place, at any time. Furthermore, combined use with the “New College Japanese-English Dictionary (Fifth Edition)” that has a well-established reputation for its sample text offers an even more variegated repertoire of example sentences.
2. “Hyakkajiten Maipedia” (“My Encyclopedia”) & “Koujien” & “Zenyaku Dokkai Kogo Jiten” (“Dictionary for Classical Japanese Complete Translation and Reading Comprehension”)
With the “Koujien” that fills the role as both a Japanese language dictionary and an encyclopedia, the encyclopedia “Mai Pedia Denshijishoban” (“My Encyclopedia, Electronic Dictionary Version”) which permits further investigation into encyclopedia items, and the “Zenyaku Dokkai Kogo Jiten” (“Dictionary for Classical Japanese Complete Translation and Reading Comprehension”) which offers explanations on Koujien classical language matters, the language student can experience the joy in words while referring to multiple dictionaries and comparing entries. 1. A “super jump feature” that enables easy lookup and entry comparison with multiple dictionaries
When an unfamiliar word appears in a dictionary, the super jump feature automatically identifies the jump category (Japanese jump or English jump) by the character type specified by the cursor, allowing the user to jump to multiple dictionaries. With this feature the user can perform operations without having to take note of whether the language is Japanese or English.
2. A “real-time search & preview feature” that decreases the number of operational steps
This feature simultaneously executes a real-time search while suggesting and narrowing down possible entries as the user enters each character, giving a preview in the lower half of the same screen to display the translation of the possible entry highlighted above. As a result, the information which naturally enters a person’s field of vision when searching for a word while scanning pages in a paper dictionary is achieved with an electronic dictionary as well.
3. A conjugation search engine “word inflector feature” that allows the user to search for a word without paying attention to the word form
The word inflector feature displays the root form of a conjugated word, thereby allowing the user to search for a word without paying attention to the word form, such as irregular form, plural form and past tense.
4. An “example sentence search feature” which richly enhances the user’s power of English expression
The example sentences included in each dictionary are extremely useful when trying to learn how to use a word or understand a particular nuance when preparing a document. In addition to the conventional example sentence search feature that searches for example sentences using multiple dictionaries at once, SR-T6700 also provides a new feature that lets the user search for examples specific to the “Cobuild English Dictionary for Advanced Learners.”
5. A “vocabulary notebook feature” capable of recording looked up words
The vocabulary notebook feature can record a maximum of 1,000 words for all dictionaries combined, without any restrictions regarding the number of recorded words per dictionary. This feature can also record items other than words, including example sentences, idiomatic expressions, Koujien idiomatic phrases and Kanjigen compound words. The recorded vocabulary can be deleted as desired and maintained in memory even during battery replacement.
6. A wild card search feature (supports both single and multiple characters)
Regardless of whether the target word is in English or Japanese, this feature allows the user to search for an unknown word by placing a question mark or asterisk in the unknown location within the word. The feature can be used in various ways, such as combining the question mark and asterisk with the character(s) to be searched, for example: “ma*a??”. There are no restrictions pertaining to the wildcard location: the question mark or asterisk can be placed at the start, in the middle, or at the end of a word. This feature can be used to solve crossword puzzles as well.
Other available features include an English conversation keyword search, Koujien 5 small dictionary search by fields (independent from the phrase search); hyperlink; spell check; idiom (phrase) search; character component reading search; character radical, reading, stroke count search; mode key ON; font size switching; history (100 items); environment settings; and calculator features.
