[Special Features of Included Dictionaries]
1. Kenkyusha’s “Dictionary of English Collocations (New Edition)”

SR-T6700 is the first electronic dictionary to include Kenkyusha’s “Dictionary of English Collocations (New Edition).” This dictionary is a collection of collocations that indicate idiomatic groupings of English words, allowing the user to check word groupings using the 380,000 rich examples provided and utilize the reference examples to write natural English when writing an English paper, for instance. This large dictionary is a must primarily for those who frequently write in English.

The dictionary can also be treated as a single databank due to digitization, allowing the user to quickly search the examples provided in the dictionary using the collocation search feature that is based on collocation patterns, the example sentence search feature that finds examples from words used, or the translation search feature that lets the user search for a keyword (English) using the translation (Japanese).

2. A Treasure House of Examples in a Compact Body – Use as A Collection of Expressions (Examples)
SR-T6700 offers a wealth of word usage examples, including those from the “Dictionary of English Collocations,” “Cobuild English Dictionary for Advanced Learners,” “5-Million-Word Wordbank from the Bank of English” and “Eikaiwa Tossa no Hitokoto Jiten” (Dictionary of English for Unexpected Situations,” and can be referred to as a “portable electronic collection of English expressions (usage examples)” that includes written and spoken English expressions taken from resources such as a corpus (language database). Thus, the dictionary allows contact with word usage examples at any place, at any time.

3. “Cobuild English Dictionary for Advanced Learners” & “Concise Oxford Dictionary” Coupling
SR-T6700 is the first electronic dictionary to offer both the “Cobuild English Dictionary for Advanced Learners (Revised Third Edition)” edited by Harper Collins, one of the two representative major publishing houses of England, and the “Concise Oxford Dictionary” edited by Oxford University Press. The “Cobuild English Dictionary for Advanced Learners” is an English-English dictionary geared toward English learners whose native tongue is a language other than English, and the “Concise Oxford Dictionary” is an orthodox school English-English dictionary used daily by native speakers. By providing these two dictionaries together, SR-T6700 allows the user to use the appropriate dictionary as the situation demands.

4. A Complete Variety of Japanese Language Series Dictionaries
By using dictionaries such as “Koujien” which is often quoted in a variety of venues and enjoys a well-established reputation as the reference to the Japanese language, the encyclopedia “Maipedia Denshijishoban” (“My Encyclopedia, Electronic Dictionary Version”) which permits further investigation into encyclopedia items, and “Tsukaikata no Wakaru Ruigo Reikai Jiten” (“A Dictionary of Synonyms in Japanese”), the language student can become increasingly familiar with the Japanese language and broaden his or her breadth of knowledge on the subject by, for instance, coming to understand the differences in nuance in Japanese synonyms starting from a dictionary designed for simple meaning lookup. *The book version of “Maipedia” (“My Encyclopedia)” has not yet been published as of January 2004.

[Main Search Features]
1. A multiple dictionary “example sentence search feature” which richly enhances the user’s power of English expression

The example sentences included in each dictionary are extremely useful when trying to learn how to use a word or understand a particular nuance when preparing a document. In addition to the conventional example sentence search feature that searches multiple dictionaries at once for examples, SR-T6700 also provides a new feature that lets the user search the examples specific to the “Cobuild English Dictionary for Advanced Learners.”

3. A “real-time search & preview feature” that decreases the number of operational steps
This feature simultaneously executes a real-time search while suggesting and narrowing down possible entries as the user enters each character, giving a preview in the lower half of the same screen to display the translation of the possible entry highlighted above. As a result, the information which naturally enters a person’s field of vision when searching for a word while scanning pages in a paper dictionary is achieved with an electronic dictionary as well.

4. A conjugation search engine “word inflector feature” that allows the user to search for a word without paying attention to the word form
The word inflector feature displays the root form of a conjugated word, thereby allowing the user to search for a word without paying attention to the word form, such as irregular form, plural form and past tense.

5. A “vocabulary notebook feature” capable of recording looked up words
The vocabulary notebook feature can record a maximum of 1,000 words for all dictionaries combined, without any restrictions regarding the number of recorded words per dictionary. This feature can also record items other than words, including example sentences, idiomatic expressions, Koujien idiomatic phrases and Kanjigen compound words. The recorded vocabulary can be deleted as desired and maintained in memory even during battery replacement.

6. A wild card search feature (supports both single and multiple characters)
Regardless of whether the target word is in English or Japanese, this feature allows the user to search for an unknown word by placing a question mark or asterisk in the unknown location within the word. The feature can be used in various ways, such as combining the question mark and asterisk with the character(s) to be searched, for example: “ma*a??” There are no restrictions pertaining to the wildcard location: the question mark or asterisk can be placed at the start, in the middle, or at the end of a word. This feature can be used to solve crossword puzzles as well.

Other available features include an English conversation keyword search, Koujien small dictionary search by field (independent from the phrase search); hyperlink; spell check; idiom (phrase) search; character component reading search; character radical, reading, stroke count search; mode key ON; font size switching; history (100 items); environment settings; and calculator features.
