Change in Management

Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII; Head Office: 1-8 Nakase, Mihama-ku, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture; Tel: 043-211-1111) approved the following new management responsibilities, at a meeting of the board of directors on November 16, 2006.

Masafumi Shimbo
Birtth date: August 15, 1946 (60 years old) Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture, Japan

[Biography]
Masafumi Shimbo graduated from Tohoku University in 1974 with a Ph.D. in civil engineering. He joined the Semiconductor Research Institute which is part of the Semiconductor Research Foundation in April 1974. In November 1976, he became a research assistant for integrated circuit engineering in the Research Institute of Electrical Communication at Tohoku University before joining SII in February 1979. He assumed the position of General Manager of the Semiconductor Department in April 1996 and also in the same year he was appointed a SII board member for a three year term. In June 1998, he became the Deputy Director of the Component Division. He was appointed an executive officer in June 1999 and became senior executive officer in 2001. He assumed the post of president of the Network Component Business Unit in April 2002, followed by president of the Micromechatronics Business Unit in April 2003 and has been a full member of the board since June 2003.
