SII Releases "IC Dictionary SR-K6000," an Electronic Dictionary Featuring 85 Types of Content Including a Travel Conversation Collection as well as English Novels

Seiko Instruments Inc. (Abbreviation: SII; President, COO & CFO: Yukihiko Chayama; Head Office: 8, Nakase 1-chome, Mihama-ku, Chiba-shi, Chiba ; Tel: 043-211-1111) will release in mid December “SR-K6000,” a new model of the electronic “IC Dictionary” series featuring a variety of content including 85 different dictionaries, encyclopedias, reference materials and the like.

The “SR-K6000” model to be released is an electronic dictionary with the same “kaiteki” PC-touch specification that enables easy PC-like input while being loaded with as many as 85 dictionaries and reference materials covering a variety of genres such as Japanese, English, encyclopedia, medicine, culture, travel conversation, learning and practical use, making the dictionary useful in a variety of situations, from daily life to overseas business trips to overseas travel.

The travel conversation collection includes 17 different resources. The dictionary covers as many as 8 languages, offering a treasure house of daily and travel conversation. The new electronic dictionary is the first electronic dictionary to include the medical conversation collection “Dr. Passport” (*1) which enables the user to remain calm and collected in the event of an accident or illness overseas, covering conversation required for a variety of conditions in fields such as internal medicine, dentistry and pediatrics. The dictionary also contains 30 English novels from the “Oxford Bookworms Library” (*1) that the student can read based on his or her level, starting from the junior high level. This library is known as a resource of booming popularity which offers extensive reading content for enhancing English language skills. The dictionary also features “Katei no Igaku” (“Family Medicine”) and “Ketsueki Sarasara Jiten” (“Blood Health Dictionary”) in the medicine and health system, “Nihonshi shoujiten” (“Concise Dictionary of Japanese History”) and “Sekaishi shoujiten” (“Concise Dictionary of World History”) in the culture system as well as a variety of Japanese and English language system dictionaries.

The dictionary is also equipped with the preferred features which are unique to electronic dictionaries, such as the jump feature, real-time search & preview feature and example sentence search feature, allowing the user to make full use of the included dictionaries, resulting in exceptional usability.
In addition, the new model to be released is an environment-conscious product (green product) certified by SII company standards in accordance with ISO 14021 Type II environmental labelling (self-declared environmental claim).

[Special Features of Included Dictionaries]
1. Mais’ “Dr. Passport”

The dictionary that performs brilliantly in the event of an accident or illness during overseas travel is “Dr. Passport.” This dictionary is replete with symptom related phrases and expressions used to express detailed conditions and fine nuances.
When a keyword is entered in Japanese, the dictionary shows the translation in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese and Korean. The dictionary greatly assists communication in a pinch by allowing the user to show the other party the words s/he wants to convey using the screen.

2. Oxford Bookworms Library
The “Oxford Bookworms Library” contains English novels written using six different vocabulary and grammar levels, allowing anyone to enjoy the stories based on his or her own language proficiency.
The library can be used for pleasure when traveling or in transit on a business trip or for English study, allowing the user to enhance his or her English skills by reading the story at all levels, starting from stage 1.
Naturally, an unfamiliar word can be immediately checked with a dictionary using the jump feature unique to electronic dictionaries. The library includes 30 titles well-known to the Japanese, such as “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and “A Little Princess.”
